Migrated to/Born in USA

Catherine was the daughter of Laurence Daly and Honora Quinn. She was born in Ballinamoragh which is part of Ballymamague North. Ballymacmague is just north of the N72, near the Colligan River and Kilgobnet. The family were probably parishioners of the Kilgobnet Church and perhaps buried there, although no Daly headstones have been located. Catherine was the youngerst of eight children for Laurence and Honora: Daniel baptized 3 Mar 1825 (sponsors: William & Margaret Morrisey), John baptized 30 Mar 1827 (sponsors: Patrick Mansell & Catherine Morrisey), Alice Daly Spratt baptized 14 Dec 1828 (sponsors: Patrick Quinn & Johanna McGrath), Patrick baptized 1 Sep 1830 (sponsors: Michael McGrath & Catherine Morrisey), Laurence baptized 21 Aug 1832 (sponsors: James Morrisey & Margaret Lehan), Mary baptized 15 Aug 1834 (sponsors: Jerome Morrisey & Mary Sweeney), Owen baptized 26 Sep 1838 (sponsors: John Quealy & Mary Quealy), and Catherine baptized 2 May 1841 (sponsors: Martin Morrisey & Ellen Barry).

In 1863 Catherine immigrated to Yonkers NY, where she met Bernard May a local blacksmith. On 24 Sep 1867 they married at St. Mary's church; James Joseph Kearney and Margaret May were witnesses to the marriage. Four months after their marriage, their first son, Bernard, was born 15 Jan 1868 and baptized 19 Jan (sponsors: L.C. Smith & Mary Daly). They had five more children: Thomas born 20 Mar 1869 and baptized 28 Mar (sponsors: James Scanlon & Mary Daly), Margaret Mary, their only daughter, born 25 Oct 1872 and baptized 3 Nov (sponsors: Owen Daly & Bridget Healy), Joseph Albert born 22 Dec 1875 and baptized 25 Dec (sponsors: Thomas Coyle & Ellenor Mulligan), John Joseph born 26 Jul 1878 and baptized 4 Aug (sponsors: Patrick F. May & Mary May), and Francis Xavier born 20 Oct 1882 and baptized 29 Oct (sponsors: Thomas Quirk & Bridget Quigley).

Catherine and Bernard's oldest son, Bernard, became a blacksmith working with his father - it is unknown yet how he died, but he died sometime between 1891 and Nov 1895. Records show he was listed in a business directory in 1891 and at his father's death in Nov 1895, he is not mentioned in the will. Furthermore in the 1900 census his mother lists 6 children with only 5 living.

Catherine died of a Cerebral Hemorrhage on 3 Nov 1918. Her daughter, as the informant listed her mother's birth date wrong and Catherine's parents as John Daly and Alice Welsh. Both have been proven to be inaccurate with subseguent records. In addition, her three siblings  Owen, Mary, and Alice who had all immigrated and lived in Yonkers, verified each other as siblings, including Catherine, in their obituaries.

Catherine's sister Mary died in 1914, her sister Alice died in 1916 and her brother Owen died in 1918 - 5 months before Catherine.

All of the above information have records on file.
