Catherine was the daughter of Michael Mansfield and Honora (Norry) Foley and the granddaughter of William Mansfield and Mary Draddy. She was born in Killeagh, County Cork, Ireland and baptized 29 Apr 1844; her sponsors were Patrick Graddy (Draddy) and Joan Cashman.

Catherine's mother Honora died either in giving birth to Ellen or shortly thereafter because by 18 Feb 1848 Michael had married Mary Keeffe. Although Catherine's sister Ellen was in baptized 1 Jun 1846, Ellen was dead by 1852.  Catherine, her father, Michael, his second wife Mary Keeffe, sister Mary, and half brother, William, immigrated to the United States in 1852. By July, her brother William and sister, Mary, had died of two different forms of Tuberculosus. Due to the highly contagious nature of Tuberculosus, it was necessary for the family to move each time.

Two more children died by 1858 and her father, Michael died in 1857. By 1858 the only surviving members of the family were Catherine, her stepmother Mary, and her half brother, Patrick.

The family moved to Yonkers, NY by 1859. Catherine married Michael Curran Aug 1868 and by 12 Apr 1869, she was a widow. Three months after her husband Michael's death, she gave birth to their daughter, Mary Teresa; 5 Jul 1869.

Catherine never remarried and lived with her stepmother Mary at 22 Mulford Street, Yonkers, until Mary's death in 1887. Her half brother died at some time prior to 1887. Catherine inherited the house.

Two of Catherine's granddaughter's Ethel (who died 11 Dec 1899, a twin of Genie), and Teresa (who died 12 Jul 1892). Both died at the age of 5 months. Catherine lost her daughter, Mary Teresa Curran May, in 1901 and raised her grandchildren, Bernard, Florence, Olive, and Genie in the same house at 22 Mulford Street. The house was sold in 1914.
