Kate emmigrated to the US about 1890. Family history says she went through Ellis Island but it wasn't open yet. She may have gone through Castle Island. I have not located her passenger record yet. She married Peter Hayden in 1893 in Springfield, MA where she was working as a waitress. They would move to Enfield, CT - where Peter's family lived and where he grew up (he was born in NJ). Peter died in 1904 - leaving Kate with 5 young children. She took in laundry to support her children. She never remarried. She died on her birthday. I have not been able to find a birth record for Kate. There is a Catherine Henaghan born to Anthony and Catherine but she is much older and born on a different date. Kate had a sister Bridget with a similar date issue - born much earlier than records show. Bridget lived with Kate at least twice. She went back to Ireland after the first time and I assume she went back again but I have not been able to find more information on her. I've also tracked Kate's siblings to New Zealand and Fall River, MA. Several stayed in Blacksod. I would love to connect with 'cousins'.
