Stayed in Ireland

Catherine (Kate) Joyce was the daughter of Stephen Joyce and Margaret Lowry, born in Dunmore. She had siblings, John (1860-1872), Michael (1865-1940), Margaret (1867-1952), Sabina (1871-?), Mary (1874-1947), and John (1876-1876).

She emigrated to the United States sometime in the 1890s, we don't know exactly when. She married Michael Manning, either in Ireland or in New York City. On Oct. 22, 1895 she gives birth to a daughter, Mary Ellen Manning, but unfortunately, Michael Manning died in 1896. Kate and Mary returned to Ireland.

Kate married Owen King on February 28, 1901 at the Roman Catholic Chapel at Dunmore. He was a laborer, she was a servant. His father was Barthy King, laborer, hers was Stephen Joyce, Farmer. Married by Thomas J. Reidy, C.C. witness: Patrick Reddington and Nora O'Shea. Anne Fahey was born on December 11, 1901. Stephen King was born in 1904, Bridget in Feb 1910 and Bartholomew in Nov. 1910. Mary Manning lived with her widowed grandmother, Margaret Lowrey, though her name was recorded as Mannion in the 1901 census.

On April 2, 1911 Owen King emigrated to America, settling in New York City. The plan was that he would bring the family to America, but it did not happen. In 1917, Bridget King died in an accident in 1917. Anne King emigrated to America in May of 1921. Both Stephen and Bartholomew King emigrated to England. Mary Manning returned to the United States. Catherine Joyce King died in 1923 in Dunmore.

Anne King Fahey was my grandmother. She married Michael Fahey in 1924, after meeting him at a Galway dance in New York City.
