Catherine McGinty, born to shoemaker John McGinty of Donegal Town, emigrated to New York in about 1891.
Family lore says she went there with her father and sister as a result of letters from a relative who had already moved there and thought life was better there than in Ireland.
Catherine and her sister decided to stay, but their father returned to Ireland as he felt his business on Main Street would provide a better future.
Catherine married Patrick Devers in 1910 and they had four children together: Mary, Patrick, Raymond and Margaret.
Catherine died November 30, 1944, at their home in Brooklyn and she is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.
