Migrated to/Born in USA

Searching for my greatgrandmother's family.

Catherine Nolan was baptised at Elphin, Roscommon, Ireland on 24 Jan 1858. She is the daughter of Michael F Nolan and Jane O'Brien. Both are from County Roscommon and they with their family emigrated to New York City in 1864. Jane and Michael had 10 children according to the 1900 US Census but I have only identified 5 of them by name. Jane, Michael and all their family died at different times in Brooklyn, New York, New York.

Jane was born in October 1825 and her mother is Mary Ryan. I know little else of her and her family.

Michael Nolan was born approximately 1825 and is the son of Catherine and Thomas Nolan. Whether Catherine(b.1808) and Thomas Nolan(b.1804) emigrated with Michael or remained in Elphin is unknown.

Catherine, wife of Thomas Nolan may be Catherine McDermott but have not yet verified that as fact.

These are records of Michael Nolan's family. 1,2 and 3 are Michael's children and the others are possible family members:

Ireland Catholic Parish Register, Elphin, County Roscommon, National Library of Ireland film #04610/01.
1. 14 August 1849  Mariam*  Nolan of Michaelis Nolan and Jona O'Brien
2. 19 Mar 1860 Michl. Nolan of Micl. Nolan and Jane O'Brien
3. 24 Jan 1858 Cathne. Nolan of Ml. Nolan and Jane B?? (I read this record and her surname is OBrien)
5. 24 August 1826 Joanis* of Thomas Nolan and Catherine McDermott
6. 19 January 1828 Catharina of Thomas Nolan and Catherine McDermott

Ireland Catholic Parish Register, Elphin, County Roscommon, National Library of Ireland film #04609/04.

Any help locating my ancestral family is very gratefully appreciated. Thank you

  • My great grandmother was Catherine Nolan bc 1832.  She is my "brickwalll".  She married Thomas Shaughnessy 1853 and they had eleven children.  She  died 1907 in Cagglemore near Strokestown.  I wonder if she could be the Catherina of Thomas Nolan and Catherine McDermott?
