Charles was born in 1843, Lavey Parish, Cavan, to John and Mary McEntyre, nee Lynch. He emigrated to New Zealand via Victoria, Australia with brother, Thomas John, inthe late 1850s. He arrived in Arrowtown, Otago , NZ in early 1860s and helped his brother buy land at Arrow Flat and build a family home that still stands today, 150 years on. Charles married Theresa Mary McKenzie of Dublin at St Mary's basilica, Invercargill, New Zelaand in Januray 1882. They had 5 children, Thomas, Robert, John, Mary Frances and Mary Theresa. They moved to Auckland where they lived until Charels and Mary died in the early 1900s. Charles worked as gold miner, grave digger, gardener and labourer throughout his life. He is buried in the old Waitakere cemetery, Auckland in the  Plot : ROMAN CATHOLIC DIVISION A Row 2, BETWEEN Plot 54-56; Interment Type: Burial ;Title: MR; Surname : MCINTYRE; Given Names: CHARLES OWEN; He was always  referred to as Owen and his surname is often found in records to be spelt as McIntyre.
