Looking to trace any local family members, my Grandfather left kilcullen sometime in the 1930’s I think, he worked on his parents farm before catching the boat to Liverpool with friend to sign up with the Irish Guards. I at present seem to be the last surviving family member so am desperate to trace anyone who knew or is related to my Grandfather.

Do you know the maiden name of Christopher's mother? What year was he born? As long as Christopher is born before 1923, I will post this message to our main message board. Thanks!

  • Hey Roger,

Many thanks for this, I do not think that is the right fellow as the DOB is different to the one I have from his Army records is 29/12/2015. This date of birth is confirmed on several Army documents. His Father's name was Thomas Doyle. I have his entire military record so if more data is needed let me know.  He enlisted in the Irish Guards at their Liverpool Barracks on 07/02/1934. I have not taken a DNA test as there is no need as although he passed before I was born I met and spent about 5 years with his widow my Grandmother. I have had my heritage confirmed by the Irish Government and am in fact now a full Irish Citizen and only carry my Irish Passport. I have another picture I could post which is an Army portrait photograph used for his Military ID I suspect. I also have a couple of his service  medals.

Thanks again for your help & support,

Please let me know if you need anything else,

All the very best to you & yours,

    Richard

Looks like I misread the day and used the date from the record above Christopher. Now to me it looks like December 22 1915 father Thomas and mother Katie Kavanagh. Has to be him.

  • I have only just seen this post but I would like to add that my we have Doyle in our family tree through marriage. Not sure if they are the same family but I have Laurence Joseph Doyle married to a cousin on my maternal side - Sarah Kelly they were living around Milemill, Kilcullen. Sarah passed away 8th Aug 1995.

Please do get in touch if we are in fact related.

  • Hey there Catherine,

Thanks for reaching out, i really appreciate it! One of my Grandfather's brothers was called Joseph so there is good chance that we have a connection! Another person in Kilcullen had a Grandfather with the name Patrick (Paddy) Doyle who we believe could also been one of my Grandfather's brothers.

Please message me directly if you need more info, my email is: richardgrahamgreen@gmail.com

    Thanks again,

My very best wishes to you & yours,

    Richard
