Christopher was born in the Ervallagh Townland adjacent to Roundstone.

His parents were Patrick Price and Mary Folan.  The family emigrated from Ireland in the 1850s and first settled in New Jersey.

Christopher served on the USS Monitor during the American Civil War.  After the war, the family moved to Calumet County, Wisconsin where they bought land and established farms.

Christopher married Catherine McDonnell whose family came from County Mayo.  He died in the Town of Stockbridge, Calumet County, Wisconsin on 28 September 1916.

  • Does anyone have any information please, on the family of Mary Barrett, whose parents were John Barrett and Margaret PRICE.  Mary came from Ballinakill in County Galway and married Patrick Folan, before they emigrated to the USA around 1850; the couple settled in Pittsburgh.  I have searched parish records in Co. Galway, but have been unable to find any birth/marriage certificates for either the Price or Barrett family.

  • I may be able to provide you with a bit of assistance as well as some ideas as to how proceed in your research.  Are you certain that Margaret Price came form Ballinakill?  In Griffith's valuation, the only places in County Galway where the name Price appears is in the townlands of Ervallagh, Omey, Clonfert and St. Nicholas (this latter is a part of Galway City).  A total of 10 Price households were listed,  six of which were in Omey and two in Ervallagh.  There were no Prices shown as living in Ballinakill, which is not in Connemara.  There were, however, Prices, Barretts and Folans living in the civil parish of Moyrus from which my ancestors come.  John Barrett and Mary Price may have in fact been living in Moryus civil parish rather than Beagh.

The former Catholic parish of Moyrus was split into the parishes of Roundstone and Carna in the mid-1800s.  Unfortunately, the parish records for Roundstone are missing for the period before 1872, so unless someone discovers them in an archive of the Catholic church, it is highly unlikely that you will find any birth, marriage or death records for the first half of the 19th century.  On the other hand, there could be reference to their birth or marriage dates in some US records.  I found such information in the application of my great-great grandmother for a Civil War Widow's pension.  Likely the best way to attempt to find out more about the origins of your ancestors is to look at your DNA matches.  I have used this with some success.  Circumstantial evidence can also provide clues.  For example, Barretts did settle in Calumet County near my Price ancestors and there was a marriage between a John Barrett and a Mary Price (my great aunt).  There could be a link between these Barretts and your own.  Similarly, your Patrick Folan could have been related to my great-great grandmother Mary Folan.  DNA matches could help in finding such links.
