Migrated to/Born in Australia

Daisy's mother died in her infancy and she had an unstable childhood. Suspected of having pulmonary tuberculosis, she migrated to Australia in 1884. Within a year, she had acquired three husbands, and gave birth to a son in 1886. In 1889, prompted by atrocities against Aboriginal people, she went to a Trappist mission north of Broome, where she observed sacred and secret ritual life. She recorded wide-ranging data on language, myth, religion, and kinship, then turned to welfare, moved by the miseries of exiled sick and elderly Aboriginal people. She was appointed CBE in 1934, and died in an old people's home in 1951.
