Daniel Keily was born in Drishane, Cork around 1845. He and his brother,Jeremiah, emigrated to Australia during the late 1860s, but I have not been able to find the record for their departure/arrival.

In 1872, he was granted a lease at Trunkey Creek, New South Wales, then a gold mining town. It is possible he met my great grandmother, Annie Mary Smith, daughter of Honora and Jeremiah Smith of Carcoar.

Daniel and Annie Mary married by special licence in St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney on 28 October 1883. At that time, he was living in Newcastle in the Wickham, Islington area and was working as a coal miner. The couple settled in Wickham, NSW.

The couple had 5 children, all of whom were born in Carcoar:

  • Daniel John Keily, 1884–1975
  • Ellen Gertrude Keily, 1886–1963
  • Francis J. Keily, 1887–1887
  • Arthur Francis Keily, 1888–1981
  • Honora Veronica (Norah) Keily, 1894–1918

Annie Mary (1853-1916) passed away in Wickham (a suburb of Newcastle) on 15 May 1916.

Daniel passed away in Wickham on 21 March 1919. The couple are buried in Sandgate Cemetery with their daughters Honora and Ellen (Lella) and her husband, Thomas Herron.
