Looking for information of place of birth in Ireland of a Daniel McCarthy who immigrated with wife, Mary Ann Moran to Jersey City, NJ, in 1859-60. Daniel and Mary Ann were married at St. Peter's RC church (now defunct) on 28 Feb 1854. His father, as listed in his wedding registry in Liverpool, England, was a Timothy McCarthy, who as he was himself, as tinplate worker. All USA censuses call for Ireland as place of birth. Also listed as occupation for most of the NJ censuses was tinsmith. In several Jersey City directories, I have discovered, his address along with several other male family members is listed as 13 Storm Ave., and the article concerning his death is listed also as 13 Storm Ave, Jersey City. This concern is regarding a place of birth in Ireland for both Daniel and his father, Timothy. I have discovered his children's name (with wife Mary Ann Moran) were a Mary (ann), John, Thomas, Daniel, Patrick, (which was mother Mary Ann Moran's fathers name), Johanna, and last born, Timothy. I am descended from son Patrick.
I have truly hit a brick wall here and would love to visit Ireland soon but need this "homeland" information to make the trip meaningful. I have other relatives from Ireland as well. The woman who married Patrick McCarthy, son of daniel, was a Maria Gavin, daughter of a Pat Gavin and Honora Higgins, as listed on a wedding registry of Patrick McCarthy and Maria Gavin, wed in Jersey City, NJ, in 1891. ("New Jersey Marriages, 1678-1985", , FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FZKD-SMF : 20 January 2020), Patrick Gavin in entry for Patrick McCarthy, 1891.) Patrick and Maria(Mary)'s children were a MaryAnn, John Joseph, Timothy j., and a Thomas McCarthy. I know that the Gavins and Higgins families were from the Ballina area in County Mayo. I do remember my Aunt, daughter or John Joseph McCarthy saying something about a Maria McCarthy coming from county Mayo when I was much younger.
I thought the naming of children might help somehow in who the original Timothy in this inquiry may have been married to. I also thought the fact that both thisTimothy and his son were tin plate workers may help. Naturally the time period in Ireland and in Liverpool england were during much unrest so perhaps they were relocated to Liverpool (address listed on Daniel/Mary Ann Moraan's wedding registry was Fortenoy Ave, Liverpool), before this 1854 time period. I am remiss in my history and geographic knowledge of these places in Ireland and, in fact all of Great Britain, and for that I apologize.
If any one can help, i will say Thank you in advance!
Mimi McCarthy Cochran
