According to FamilyTreeDNA, Daniel Murphy (died 1712), who immigrated from County Carlow, Ireland to Charles County, MD in the late 17th century was born “before 1670.” A birthdate of 1670 is an arbitrary date set by some genealogical sites. Most immigration records have Daniel immigrating in 1678 or 1679 to Maryland by himself. It seems more plausible that Daniel was a teenager or at least 16 when he made that voyage. If that’s the case, then Daniel would have been born closer to 1660 than 1670. The chronology still works with him being born in 1660, as he would have married in his 30s and to a woman not that much younger than him. Besides, Daniel immigrating by himself to Maryland in his teens is more plausible than immigrating alone as an 8 or 9 year old child!

To correct and update a previous post about Daniel Murphy (died 1712) who immigrated from Carlow County, Ireland in 1679 to Charles County, MD; it does appear that he was born circa 1651 (before 1670, not in 1670) in County Carlow and immigrated to Maryland in his late 20s. Daniel's (died 1712) father was not Thomas Murphy, even though some amateur genealogists have used an antiquated Sons of the American Revolution application where a Thomas Murphy is penciled in as the father of the immigrant, Daniel Murphy, as this Thomas Murphy was of a close kinship to the immigrant Daniel. There was a Thomas Murphy in this time period, but he was probably an uncle and not the father of the Daniel Murphy who immigrated to Charles County, MD and died in 1712. The father of the immigrant Daniel Murphy (died 1712), was also named Daniel Murphy and born circa 1620 in Ballaghkeen, County Wexford, Ireland.
