Denis married Mary Herlihy on January 25, 1872 at St. Finbarr-South Parish. They had 5 children (Eleanora, Hannah, Patrick, Mary and Thomas) between the years 1872-1879. Patrick died in 1877 of croup. Denis emigrated to Chicago in 1880 and Mary and the children followed in 1881. They had 4 more children before Mary died in 1893, soon after giving birth to their 9th child. Denis died August 30, 1932 in Chicago.
