Apparently Dennis's father was transported to Australia. His mother also went to Australia. Dennis and his brother Patrick then lived with their maternal grandparents in Co. Kerry. It seems that he arrived in Maine, US in 1846. In 1856 he and his wife and 3 daughters and one son were emigrating to California. They sailed to the eastern side of the isthmus of Panama. There was a train accident on the ride from the east side of Panama to the west side and all but the son, Caleb John Crowley (age 3 1/2) and daughter Ella May (age 2) were killed.
