I was interested to see the name of Dennis Harrington on this site. Without anything to back up any connection, my great-grandmother was Margaret Harrington (1849-1921). Her father was Denis (1825-1871), and grandfather (possibly) Daniel.
My Great Great grandfather born about 1790 married Margaret White. One of his sons, John Harrington, was my great grandfather. Harrington family members still live in and around South Ring, Clonakilty.

Sorry, also meant to mention that the Harringtons associated with me were, I believe, from Timoleague or nearby.

Hello Bernadette
Thanks for the reply. My Daniel Harrington would have been born in or around 1790 very approx, maybe later. I do not know where he was born but think Clonakilty area. He was married to a Margaret White, age and place of birth unknown. They settled in South Ring where they had 7 children including a Margaret. Other names include Daniel, Timothy, Patrick, John, Ellen and Honorah. John, Honorah and possibly Patrick settled in England but others remained in South Ring. Descendants still live there. It is not far from Timoleague which I have visited. Have you any further info on your Harringtons please?
Thanks

Hello Pat
I was delighted to get such a swift response to my comments!
Unfortunately, I don't have any details of Margaret's siblings, so can't how many there were if at all.
What I can tell you is that she died in Clonakilty, which resonates with your ancestor. She was married to my great-grandfather, Cornelius Desmond, and they lived in Killavarrig, near Timoleague.
Hanora, though, is a name in my own family tree. I currently have my DNA registered on both Ancestry and MyHeritage. Have you done likewise? Maybe, between us, we could get more clues on either or both of those sites.
Best wishes,
Bernadette

Hello again
As an extra detail (if it helps) my Margaret Harrington was also descended from the McCarthys on her mother's side, her grandfather being Daniel. Unfortunately I don't have any details of her grandmother's first or maiden names.

Bernadette

Hi again Pat
On rereading this, it occurs to me that the Daniel Harrington in your tree could perhaps be Margaret's grandfather, although you do not mention a Denis among the seven children. Alternatively, he could be Margaret's great-uncle rather than grandfather.
Margaret herself had nine children with several name similarities to Daniel's: Ellen, John, Catherine, Cornelius, Timothy, Patrick, Hanora, Margaret and Mary.
I'm thinking of applying for her birth certificate (b.29.08.1849) and from that I hope to find out her parents' names. (Unlikely that her mother's would be on there!)
I would be very interested to hear of any findings you make.
Regards,
Bernadette

Hi Pat
It's been about a year since we corresponded. Have you got any further with your research? I'd love to hear more!

Hello Bernadette
I have DNA registered on MyHeritage and my sister has registered her DNA on Ancestry. Unless I have received a notification about you or you have received one about me it seems unlikely that we are related. I do not know what notifications I she has received from Ancestry.
Sadly I am no further forward re my Denis/Dennis Harrington or wife Margaret White so have reached a brick wall and can get no further back. I have no way of knowing if he was even born in Clonakilty or married there as cannot find either a birth or a marriage for either of them.
How have you been getting on? Better I hope/
Best wishes
Pat Kelly
