Edmond Crotty 1818

Back to List

My grandmother's family is from Cahir in Tipperary. Her father was Edmond Crotty(b 1818) left Ireland with several siblings and his Mother Mary(Pendergast, Prendergast) Crotty after the death of his father around 1849. The below information is for Edmond Crotty my Great grandfather. He was also called Ned, which is probably because his father was also Edmond Crotty. There were 12 children and the first to come to Michigan was  James Crotty about 1834. In 1837 he returned to Ireland and married and then returned again to Michigan along with his sister Margaret Crotty. I am struggling with where to look and how to find additional information. My granddaughter and I are traveling to Ireland in May of 2020. Any help or direction is appreciated.

The baptism info is for Edmond Crotty my Great grandfather

  • Hi There:

Thank you for your Chronicle for Edmond.  We have a local volunteer in the Cahir area who may be able to assist you further with your research and possibly meet you if you are planning on visiting the area.  I have forwarded this post to him and you should expect a reply within a few weeks.

Many thanks for your interest in the Ireland Reaching Out programme.

    All the best,

  • James,

I was born in Cahir in 1947 and I now live in Portlaoise . I  reviewed the records that you outlined and they show that two of the clildren  (Elizabeth 1826 and  Maurice 1832 ) of Edmund  and Mary Prengergast were baptised in Caher  and I have viewed the copy of the Marriage record of James Crotty and Catherine Gorman on 4th April 1837. in the Parish Registers (Knockgraffon ).

I know the Caher area reasonably well  and have travelled around sections of Knockgraffon  and I am familiar with it's history  ( The Kings of Munster  resided there for hundred of years before the establishment of the Rock of Cashe). If it suits you when you arrive in Ireland we can meet in Caher and I will show you around the town and take you to Knockgraffon.

You might like to suggest some suitable dates that we could meet in advance of your arrival.

    Regards

    Thomas Hussey

    Native of Caher
