Edmund Burke, born Elphin Roscommon abt 1770, in about 1787 left Elphin and joined the British Army. After being wounded in 1803 he was dischaged as a Pensioner in c 1803 while a Pay Sergeant in the 8th West Indies Regment.
Before 1826 he married Anne Agens Grant of Goslpie Sutherland daughter of Lieutenant William Grant of the Sutherland Fencibles and Margaret MacKay (or MacCray).
Edmund Burke and Anne (Agnes) Grant had two children, both born in Edinburgh, a daughter Margaret born c 1828 and a son Edmund born 1830. Their son Edmund later married Mragaret Hood of Coldstream Berwick.
