Edmund Burke served in the British Army. He died in Edinburgh in 1840, and was born about 1770 in Elphin Roscommon. We are pretty sure the townland was Tansyfield. There are 3 possible Edmund Burke's in Tansyfield at the time and we're not sure which one is our direct ancestor! Our Edmund's surname is sometimes spelt Burk and sometimes Burke. He married Ann Grant, the daughter of an Army officer, William Grant. Ann was born in 1795 in Golspie Sutherland. She and Edmund had 2 children - Margaret born about 1826 and Edmund born about 1828. Edmund junior is our direct ancestor. We are seeking any further information about Edmund senior as we would love to learn more about the family and built out the family tree.
