Edward Connaughty (Connerty) 1809

Back to List

looking for any family relations of Edwards parents etc or siblings.

Edward was born 1809 in Westmeath died Oct 1864 in Sydney Australia. Edward was tried for perjury in 22/7/1835, with 7 years penalty and shipped to Australia on the vessel "Surry" late 1835

On release, he lived in Wellington NSW Aust.and married Mary Hayes in 1846 in Fish River NSW, and produced 5 children.

He Married Mary Loughry 25/5/1833 in Multyfarnham, Westmeath she died in Balladina Multyfarnham Westmeath 25/5/1837.

I believe they had a child, name unknown and could have died at birth.

  • Hi Les,

I attach the link for the death record for Mary Connaughty (nee Loughrey) in 1837 in Ballinredra, Multyfarnham.  There were many Loughrey families living in that townland and so it appears that after Edwards sentance,Mary returned to Ballinredra. Unfortunately, I can find no Connaughty, Connerty or similiar names in the parish of Multyfarnham.  I could not find a death record for a child of Mary's either, between the years 1835 and her death in 1837.

I've being checking through the Irishnewsarchives.com website to see if I could find the details of the "perjury" case against Edward but came up with a blank.  Do you have any details about the case as this might tell me where exactly Edward lived before his marriage to Mary Loughrey.
