Stayed in Ireland
Eliza Higgins was born about 1846 in Abbeyleix, Queen's County, Ireland. (A child with the same name, and parents' names that were similar to hers, was baptized on Christmas Day in 1851, but that person was not this person.) The parents of this person, Eliza Higgins, were John Higgins (who lived and farmed in Colt) and Anne Grant. Her brother was Thomas Higgins. She may also have had brothers named Denis and Jeremiah. Eliza married Richard Byrne in 1873 in Raheen, and together they had seven children, including Mary Bridget. Mary Bridget had left before the 1901 census, while five sons remained at home at that time. Eliza Higgins Byrne died in 1925. This Eliza passed in Abbeyleix Civil Parish, Queen's County, Ireland. (A person with the same name, and parents' names, died in New Zealand.) By 1922, the name of Queen's County had changed to County Laois. The location of Eliza Higgins Byrne's gravesite was uncertain as of 2021. An Eliza Higgins was buried in Ballytarsna in a cemetery named Old Graveyard in Abbeyleix.
