  • I am very interested in your SHANAHAN.

I have Margaret SHANAHAN b. circa. 1821 in Ballagh, Killeedy Civil Parish, Limerick who married David MCCARTHY 28 Feb 1843 in Ballagh, Killeedy Civil Parish.

We suspect Margaret is the daughter of Widow SHANAHAN who owned acreage near presumably her son, Maurice according to the 1832 Tithes Applotment records.

Several of Margaret's brothers left Killeedy en route to Ontario, Canada and settling in Grand Rapids, Michigan as CEOs of Bissell Carpet Cleaning business.

1879 at least two of Margaret and David's sons, Charles (1850-1903) and Edward (1848-1914) left Ireland for Manhattan, New York.  Edward was accompanied by his OHARA wife and several young children, few who didn't live long after their arrival.  Charles married Elizabeth EDWARDS dau of Daniel EDWARDS and Johanna FOLEY.
