Ellen McCormick (McCormack) was born c 1850 in County Sligo, probably either Gorteen/Gurteen or Clogher, where her mother's family was from. She married William Dean at the age of 18 on 21 Jan 1867 at Ballaghaderreen, County Mayo. He was several years older and was born in Mohill, County Leitrim. He joined the RIC in 1857 and was stationed in County Mayo.
Thier first two children were born in Sligo; the third and fourth in Mayo. It appears by the time the fifth was born, they were on thier way to England - this daughter Ellen was born in Dublin in 1877.The following three children were born in Ripley, Derbyshire, where the family settled.
Ellen was in Swanwick, Derbyshire at the time of daughter Kate's marriage in 1904. Curiously, it also mentions that her husband, William, was deceased. William and Ellen's great grandson has told me that they both returned to Ireland ('to die') and I have almost certainly found William's death record dated 1912 in Ireland. Ellen did return to Ireland, and died in 1915 in Birr, County Offlay in the presence of her unmarried daughter Ellen. The younger Ellen was living in Ireland as early in 1901, where she stayed with her unmarried maternal great-aunt, Ellen Allingham.
