Ellen Smith was born April 1839 in Glebe (Lambfield), Drumreilly Lower Parish, Leitrim to Patrick Smith and Mary Smyth. Mary was not related to Patrick and her maiden name was spelled differntly. Their daughter Ellen married Hugh Fox on February 9, 1864 in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Ballinmore in Ballinmore, Leitrim. The witnesses were James Fox, (brother of Hugh) and Ellen Stringer. Hugh and Ellen had 9 children, 3 of which died in Ireland. Ellen's husband Hugh left for the USA in 1884. In 1886 son Patrick also left for the USA. In 1889 they sent for Ellen and the rest of the family and they all lived and worked in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. Patrick was the only one of the children to marry, he was my grandfather. All of the Fox family with the exception of Patrick and the children who died in Ireland are buried in St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA. There are several families from Leitrim buried in St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
