Esther Wickham was born early 1800s and married a Mr Hill, but was widowed when Mr Hill was killed in a riding accident.  She then remarried a James Williams on 30 August 1831 at St Patrick's Church, Kilquade, County Wicklow, and had at least 4 children:

Eliza (Elizabeth) Williams, baptised  8 March 1832  at St Patrick's Church, Kilquade, County Wicklow;

John Williams, baptised 5 August 1834  at St Patrick's Church, Kilquade, County Wicklow;

Mary Williams, baptised 3 May 1836 St Joseph's Church, Bray, County Wicklow, residence Shanganah;  and

Catherine Williams, baptised 9 December 1838 St Michael's, Dun Laghaire, County Dublin, residence Killiney.

There are claims that there was a fifth child; Bridget, borne about 1842 who may have been adopted out.

It would seem that Esther died in the mid 1840s and that James Williams (52) Widower together with John (15) and Catherine (12), all of Killiney, were admitted to a Dublin Workhouse on 14 June 1848. Eliza Williams (16) also of Killiney was admitted to Rathdown Union Workhouse, Dublin on 16 November 1848 with a Mary Williams(12) being admitted on 23 May1849.

Eliza 21 and Mary 16 emigrated to Adelaide South Australia in 1853 with John and Catherine following in 1857 possibly after Father James had died.

The three girls married but John lived with sister Catherine until he died in 1904.

There are now hundreds of descendants all over Australia, however a large contingent still live in South Australia. - I myself a Great Grandson of Mary Williams.

Like many of us in Australia we would like to know more of our Wickham and Williams family in Ireland but are yet to make the connection.
