My Great Aunt from Woodford Co. Galway (my Mother's side of the family). She passed away in 1983. Her sister is my grandmother. Her brother Bill was (apparently) an RIC constable. From what I've been told, he had taught the boys of the Burke family of Marble Hill house (destroyed during Civil War?) to shoot. At some time on or after 1916, he raised a Tri-Color in woods near Woodford. I visited Woodford in 1962 when I was four years old. Any information about the Mahon family of Woodford Co. Galway would be greatly appreciated.

  • I don't think this helps you, but my great-great grandmother was Bridget Mahon, who was born and died in Woodford C Galway.  It would seem that Florence could either be a daughter or granddaughter of one of Bridget Mahon's male siblings. Her married name was Lynch. Below is what I know about her siblings so it may be that Florance is the daughter or granddaughter of either Cornelius (Con) Mahon or Thomas Mahon.  Perhaps that's a start for you to learn more.

  • Was your Florence Mahon the daughter of Patrick Mahon and Affey Eggleston?

  • Unfortunately I have no idea. Both my mother (nee Carthy) and my other uncles an aunts on my Mother's side have passed away. Their mother (whose first name I cannot recall) died around 1960 and my Great Aunt Florance died in 1983. They were both Mahons from Galway. I have no more living connections to the Mahon family. Undoubtedly there are Mahons residing in Woodford, but, if there are, I am not acquainted with them.

  • Do you know if your great uncle William Mahon was married to Anne White?

  • I do not know anymore than what I shared in my first post.  I am related to Bridget Mohan.  Florence COULD be a neice or great-neice of hers.  Just a guess.  I was suggesting you search for anyone who knows the lineage of Con (cornelius) or Thomas to learn if your Great Aunt Florance was one of their children. Perhaps those researching those family lines can help you more.
