Hi would you know who Francis parents were?
References
Francis William McDonald was born in Roscommon. He enlisted in the 3rd European Regiment at Solihull, in 1854 & soon sailed to India aboard the ship Malabar.
He fought in the Indian Mutiny of 1857 & received the Indian Mutiny medal.
In 1861 he is recorded as being in Jaulnah, with his regiment now amalgamated with the 108th Regiment of foot.
In 1862 with a local Indian woman, Maria, Francis had a daughter, Catherine [1872-1937], my 2x great grandmother.
Francis at some point started working as a guard for the Sind, Punjab, & Delhi railway, the occupation mentioned on his death at Ghazeeabad in 1872, aged only 40.

Hi, I haven't yet been able to identify Francis' parents. I have searched online records extensively but have not yet found any convincing candidates. However I am trying to build up a picture through my DNA matches & Gedmatch, & Facebook genealogy groups. One clue which I have pondered over, from India records, is a John Patrick McDonald who worked with Francis. John Patrick's daughter [who died 4 mths] was called Elizabeth Catherine Maude McDonald, & Francis' son's daughter was called Eliza Catherine Maude...so perhaps a clue for family names. Do you have a McDonald or McDonnell connection. Regards, Linda

Correction, that is, Francis' daughter's daughter was called Eliza Catherine Maude.
Francis Wm McDonald's daughter was Catherine McDonald, who married William Brady, & secondly married Alfred Marolly.
