Garrett Edward FITZMORRIS was born 1846-1847 in Ireland, poss. Co. Kerry or Co. Limerick.  Emigrated at about age 6 to New York, USA from Ireland in 1852, with his widowed mother, Margret [unknown surname] Fitzmorris, and three older siblings: Edward Jr. (b. ca1832), Michael J. (b. ca1833-1836), and Mary Margaret (b. ca1840).  Garrett married Margret PEARSE about 1866, prob. in Cattaraugus or Erie Co., New York.  Garrett had a shoe and boot making shop in Dayton, Cattaraugus Co. most of his adult life. They had 11 children, most if not all b. in Dayton: Mary Margaret (b. 1867); Edward J. (b. 1868); Mary Jane ("Jennie" b. 1870; my great-grandmother); twins James & Anna (b. 1871); Katherine (b. 1874); Michael Joseph (b. 1876); Ella M. (b. 1877); George Henry (b. 1882-1883); Elizabeth Ayres (b. 1884); Julia Teresa (b. 1886).

Garrett and Margret moved from Dayton to Buffalo, Erie Co., NY around 1893.  Garrett d. there 6 March 1896*, and was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna, Erie, NY.  His funeral was held at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Buffalo.  His wife, Margret PEARSE Fitzmorris, afterward lived with various of her children in Buffalo.  She d. 21 November 1917, after a 4-year stay in the Buffalo State Hospital.  She was also buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna.
