Gilbert Joseph Kelly : Short Biography

Gilbert was the secon son of Gilbert and Catherine (nee McDonogh), brother of Michael Joseph Kelly.

He emigrated to New York aged 23, aboard the Lucania arriving on 30th April 1898.

He married Bridget Archer from New Ross, Co Wexford

They lived in a rather poor area of Hells kitchen New York.  Gilbert was employed in a hotel in a menial position.

They had 9 children, 5 of whom died either at birth or within their first years of life, from various poverty related illnesses.

Bridget died 26th December 1912 from Tuberculosis

Catherine, Margaret, Gilbert Joseph and John James appear to have survived but there is no trace of them or their father after the death of their mother
