Hanorah (Norah) McCutcheon 1831

Back to List

Hanorah McCUTCHEON is my grt-grt-grandmother.  She was born Ireland ca. 1831. According to her marriage certificate her father was John McCutcheon.

There was a John McCUTCHEON & Margaret MEEHAN, married in December 1830, Newport Parish, who had a daughter Norah baptised 1831 in Newport Catholic Parish - I think this might be my Hanorah.

It has been suggested that this photo of Hanorah may have been taken prior to her leaving Ireland.

Hanorah came out to Dardanup, Western Australia where she worked as a servant girl.  In October 1853 she married an ex-convict, Richard James Hall.  Richard had been baptised into the Catholic Church prior to their marriage so presumably Hanorah was Catholic.

Hanorah & Richard went on to have 10 children.  They appear to have followed the naming pattern of the times for their 1st & 2nd daughters, and 1st & 2nd sons.  Their 1st daughter named Margaret, and 2nd son named John.

Hanorah died 22nd Feb 1887 at Bunbury, Western Australia, aged 55 years.

I have a lot of information on Hanorah, Richard & their descendants' families here in Western Australia.

Despite much researching of Irish records over many years, I can't unearth anything on Hanorah & her family. I would love to find out more about her roots in Ireland, and hope there is someone who may know something to help me along the way in my research.

I am hoping to visit Ireland in July and will be going to Tipperary where another branch of my family originate from.  It would be great if, before then, I was able to discover that little bit more about Hanorah's life in Ireland.

Thanks

Coleen
