  • The photo is my grandmother, Helen Culloty Coffey and my mother, Maureen Teresa Coffey Myers, the youngest of six known children.  She grew up on a farm in Castleisland, in the area of Cragg West.  The story my great aunt Anne (Helen's sister) told was that they used to play in caves where there were 'shiny' objects.  From that and other stories when relatives visited, we think that they may have discovered the area where Cragg Caves in Castleisland which is now a tourist spot.  Helen's father was Daniel Culloty who married Catherine O'Connor October 25, 1887 in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Castleisland.  The marriage record lists Daniel's father as John a farmer, and Catherine's father as Timothy O'Connor, also a farmer.

I am looking for any information on the O'Connor side of this family, as well as Culloty.  Thank you!

  • Boston Irish,

Let me know if you find out anything more on the Cullotys. I'm researching my great-grandmother Margaret Culloty who married Michael Casey in Castleisland in 1854. Listed as witnesses are Eugene Culloty and James Casey, who I assume are the respective fathers. The newly weds went on to have 6 children baptised in Castleisland, and immigrated to New Orleans in 1869-1870. We're probably cousins LOL.
