My 3 x great grandmother Honora FRAWLEY baptisted 1819, in Parish of Dromin, parents James FRAWLEY and Catherine CONNORS  married 1819 Parish of Hospital and Herbertstown Limerick. No further info on them.

Honora married Robert CRAWFORD, a soldier, 1838 at Rathkeale, Limerick and came to Australia about 1845, where their 4th child, Catherine was born.

Robert died 1849 and Honora then married William John HOOPER 1850 in Sydney. Honora died after 1885

  • Hi

I read your comment that Honora Frawley is your GGG grandmother. I am one generation closer as she is my GGgrandmother. I have found the information you have written but have been unable to confirm her death. She is missing from NSW BDM and its possible she married a third time so another name change. Also nothin on the National Library of Australia TROVE collection. I wondered if you would be so kind as to show me where you found the 1885 date.

As well as Honora I am trying to trace her husband back one more generation. There is a determined effort by his family, Crawford, to name at least on child Robert Crawford. So his son Robert Crawford [2] has a son Robert Crawford [3]. There is a potential father for Robert [1] also Robert, now [-1] who fought at Waterloo and was discharged twice about the right age to be father of Robert [1] and lived in Enniskillen. So a military link and a rather tenuous naming link.

  • Very pleased to hear from you.

I have my 4 times great grandfather Robert Crawford born 1787, Bathgate, Scotland and died 1856 and buried at Greyfriar's cemetery. His parents William Brawford and Margaret Rankin.

Next Robert born 1820 in Gibraltar, married Honora Frawley 1838 Rathkeale, Ireland and died 1849 Blackheath, Australia.

His son Robert born 1844 Kilkenny, Ireland (my gg grand father) married Anne Whitelaw 1864 Sydney. They had 2 sons called Robert. The first born 1871 and died within days. 2nd Robert was born 1872 and died 1914 in Sydney.

I am descended from Robert and Anne's first born daughter Margaret.

My brother has Crawford as his middle name.

Would be very pleased to hear from you. My email is scjones@optusnet.com.au

  • Hi Susan, I am also researching my Frawley family history. I have posted my GG x grandfather John Frawley on this page in the hope of finding out more about his family and that of the father of his wife Mary Connors. It seems there was quite a connection between the Frawley and Connors families in Limerick. I guess that was the case with most families at the time. I would be interested to know what you think about what I have written about John.

    Regards

  • Hi Margaret

I have written to Susan as well and am interested in the links between the Frawley family and then the marriage of Honora to Robert Crawford. I haven't had time to prepare a note to Susan particularly as she is a very meticulous researcher however I have a feeling, well from my research, that the Robert [1] Crawford who came to Australia as a Private in the 11th Foot was born not in Gibraltar but in Enniskillen in County Fermanagh C.1819. He married Honora 19 Sept 1838 in Rathkeal and Robert [2] his son was born at the Barricks St. John Street in Kilkenny where the 11th was being held as part of a posting to Ireland.

Now all this is at odds with Susan and although I have all the records to make me confidant it could still be the wrong Crawford somewhere.

Interested to learn what you know about the Frawley family.

    cheers

  • Hello Adrian and Susan, very pleased to hear from you both.

My internet has been a little unreliable so sorry for the slow response. Have just started using Ireland reaching so hope I am reaching you both.

My email address is  margaret-lp@optusnet.com.au  and I live in Victoria Australia.

I have my details for my 2nd great grandfather John Frawley attached to him. At this stage I haven't found a Crawford in my tree which is on Ancestry and public and has all my records and documentation on it.

I have also had my DNA tested which has been a huge help in proving relatives I wasn't sure about.

I really interested in the the Connors, Frawley connection in Susan's tree as my 3rd great GF James Connors who married Catherine Hayes 1821 Shanagolden may have been related to Catherine Connors (maybe a sister?).

I am also interested to learn about your Frawleys Adrian. Hope we can help each other fill some more gaps.

    Regards

    Margaret
