Hugh Clark(e) was born c 1830. He married Mary Carroll born c 1829 in 1854. If this is the correct record, they emigrated to Victoria on the ship The Hilton, arriving on 7 July 1854. On the listing, his occupation is listed as Agricultural Labourer, RC, could read and write and was assigned to Mr Anredked(?) of Forest Creek for 3 months. On his son's birth certificate, Hugh Jnr, in 1856, his occupation was listed as miner - Forest Creek was a mining area outside Castlemaine. On his son's marriage certificate, dated 1891, he is listed as a bootmaker. He died in the Castlemaine Benevolent Asylum on 9 September 1907 and was buried at Chewton Cemetery (again outside Castlemaine). On his death certificate, his parents were listed as Hugh Clarke, farmer, and Annie Lynch.
