Hugh Sheeran was born in Ireland circa 1842 and emigrated to Philadelphia circa 1857. His older brother John, born circa 1835, also immigrated to Philadelphia. A passport application indicates John's place of birth was County Derry, but DNA evidence indicates that the family was from Donegal, possibly the Letterkenny area.
