James Cobham was born 19 Sep 1808 in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Ireland.  Parents/siblings unknown.

James signed on with the British Coastguard in Sligo, Ireland in 1831.  By 1832, he was assigned to the CG Station in Brixham-Dartmouth, Devon, England.  

On 19 Feb 1833, All Saints Church, Brixham, he married Lura Smith (1813-1893), d/o Walter Smith and Elizabeth Landrey Upham.  Their first child, Lura Smith Cobham, was born 1833, Brixham. Shortly thereafter, he was assigned to the CG Station in Broadstairs, Isle of Thanet, Kent, England. 

Seven children were born to them in Broadstairs: James Cobham 1835, Walter Smith Cobham 1837, Elizabeth Ann Cobham 1839, Martha Johnson Cobham 1840, Mary Ann Jane Cobham 1842, Alexander Smith Cobham 1844 and Henry George Cobham 1846.

Five more children were born in Ireland and baptized in the Church of Ireland:  Florence Cobham 1847, Sarah Jane Cobham 1849, George Cobham 1851, Ebenezer Charles 1852 and William James Cobham 1855.   .

James Cobham (b.1808) is Iast found in the CG records as having finished 28 Dec 1865.  He emigrated to Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, shortly thereafter - date unknown.  He died 28 Jun 1877 and his wife, Lura, 19 Mar 1893, in Saint John.

Their children emigrated to Saint John as well but a few years earlier.  Not known exactly when.
