James Cummiskey lived his entire life in Currycreaghan, His wife was Catherine (Eliza) Clyne and they had Ten Children of which Six emigrated to the United States and 2 two died at a young age. Jams was born in March of 1843 and as far as I have been able to ascertain he died Jan - Mar in 1928. After his death he was the last remaining family member left in Currycreaghan. He was married in Carrickedmond on 29 Jul 1875 His children are Patrick, Simon, John, Mary, Annie, Bernard, Theresa, Sara, Ellen and Elizabeth.

When James Cummiskey was born on March 28, 1843, in Longford, Ireland, his father, John, was 27 and his mother, Judityh, was 26. He married Elizza Clyne on July 29, 1875, in Longford, Ireland. They had 10 children in 21 years. He died on September 26, 1925, in Longford, Ireland, at the age of 82, and was buried in the Aghara Cemetery.

James inherited the family farm from his father John and raised cattle on his property. On two occasions James was fined for letting his livestock wander about the public road in Currycreaghan. Once on the 4th of September 1897 for which he was fined 2 shillings as recorded in the Longford Leader and a second time the 6th of December 1913 for which he was fined 1 shilling again published in the Longford Leader.

James was the founding member of the Carrickedmond Chapter of the United Irish League and a past President of that organization. James was considered an old time Nationalist and was an ardent follower of Charles Stewart Parnell whom had met on more than one occasion to shake his hand. He was also a close friend to J. P. Farrell M.P. the founding owner and editor of the Longford Leader.

James’ Funeral Mass was held at Carrickedmond on the 29th of September 1925. He was buried in the family grave site in the Aghara Cemetery but there is no marker on his grave. The only family memorial is that of his Grand-father Patrick Cumasky.
