We have no certain information about where he was born but Ulster. I have heard Antrim, but nothing proven. They were Presbyterian according to a biographical sketch written in the 1800s in the United States. It is believed the family arrived in Pennsylvania in 1768-9
He married Arabella Goode in Ulster about 1758. They had 4 children in Ireland, and 2 in Virginia. Their children were Arabella (b. 18 May 1763), William Henry (b.3 July 1765), James (1767), George (1768), Charlotte (13 Apr 1770), Jonathan (1772).
