James Dooley was born on the 26th of April 1877 in Curracreehan in the civil parish of Shrule, Count Longford.
At the age of 8, Dooley left Ireland for Australia. He arrived in Brisbane and spent a number of years in education before training as a tailor.
As an adult, Doolely joined the labour party and soon entered into a career in politics.
He served two short terms as Premier of New South Wales in the 1920's.
In 1923 he was briefly expelled from the Labour party.
James Dooley died in Sydney on the 2nd of January 1950.
