  • James Galvin was born in Kilrush, County Clare in 1806 (estimated) but we are desperate to find out about his Irish family. This is what we know so far

    He joined the Royal Navy and came to the Kent area to live and work

    He married Susannah Adley in 1828 - Both James and Susannah are listed as minors on their marriage

    James had applied for a special marriage licence on the 14th June 1828 in Deal to marry at St Dunstan, Canterbury. His age is given as over 20 but under 21. He further made Oath that he hath no father living or Guardian of his person lawfully appointed or mother living and unmarried or Guardian of his person appointed by the Court of Chancery and having authority to consent to his marriage. And he further made Oath that the consent of John Adley the father of the said Susannah Adley hath been obtained to such marriage. Susannah's ages was given as over 17 but under 21.
       
    On the baptism of his first son (15/11/1829), John Adley Elias, his address is given as South Barracks and trade as Seaman, HMS Ramillies
       
    In 1831 (20/02/1831) they are living at Worth, Kent and James' occupation is given as Seaman.
