James was the son of Catherine Mannion and Nicholas Hannon. He was the twin brother of Daniel Francis Hannon. Together they were two of 14 children, all boys, by Nicholas and Catherine. They were born in Tuam on Tirboy Road.

  • On June 13, 1874, Thomas Hannon of Tierboy road, Tuam,  married  Winifred Miskell of Dublin road, Tuam.

    On the marriage certificate, both fathers, Nicholas Hannon and Timothy Miskell are listed as "alive with an occupation of Labourer".

    A daughter Julia is born December 24, 1876, followed by Nicholas J. Hannon in 1879, and Patrick Hannon in 1881. Shortly thereafter,

    this family emigrated to Boston, USA, where Thomas and Winifred had several more children..
