James would have been 19 years of age and worked on a farm owned by his mothers Uncle whose name was McGrath?? He evidently offered or gave him the deeds of the farm but after having an argument with his great Uncle tore them up.

At some stage he lived (or the family) lived in an old homestead near the entrance to "Riverton". Mr Reid almost sacked James when he allowed some of the precious gorse plants destined for gorse hedges to die.
