My 4GGF James Maloy Sr. was born c1794 Co. Kilkenny Ireland per his headtsone. He died 30 MAR 1884 in Kalamazoo, Michigan [Kalamazoo Gazette, April 4, 1884.] while residing with his son John.
He 1st landed May 1824 in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada before making his way Marblehead, Essex, Massachusetts, USA in Aug 1824. [Naturalizations in Washtenaw Co., MI, Circuit Court, 1833-1836, Abstracted by Betty Brandt and Nancy H Krohn, Family History Capers, Vol 10, No 2 1986. States May or June].
On 28 Dec 1828 he married Ellen Quinn of Boston in Providence, Rhode Island, USA at the Beneficent Congregational Church. They also married on 30 Dec 1828 in Boston, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA at the Holy Cross Cathedral and remained Cathloics thereafter.
One son and 2 daughters were born in Rhode Island. On 8 June 1833 James purchased an 80 acre in Ann Arbor township, Washtenaw, Michigan.
In 1835 he started Naturalization proceedings in Washtenaw Co., Michigan, USA. Two sons and a daughter were born in/around Ann Arbor Township MI. He farmed the Land Grant until 1868 when he lived in town as a retired farmer while his wife Ellen was employed as a seamstress. Between 1880 and 1884 he moved to his son John's in Kalamzoo where he tended bar for John. He and his wife are interred at Old St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
We are very uncertain, but it is possible that his father was Michael Maloy [born c1747 Ireland ; died 7 Aug 1855 Providence RI; yes he claimed to be 108yo]. Per gathered records Michael had a son Nicholas. Nichols's 2GGD and I are DNA matches at the 5th to 8th cousin level.
I would very much like to find the parents and silings of James Maloy of Kilkenny.
