Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in Australia
James Patton was born in either Raphael or Stranorlar, County Donegal. According to his death certificate his parents were Niel Patton, farmer, and Catherine McGlauchlan.
James Patton married Anne Callan in Donegal about 1840. They had 4 children James, Michael, John and Catherine, all born in Donegal between 1842-1848. Their eldest son, James, died before 1852.
On 3 July 1852, James and Anne and their 3 surviving children embarked on the ship “Kate” from Plymouth bound for Australia. Their name is spelt Patten on the shipping index. They were quarantined at Spring Cove, Sydney Harbour, on their arrival. James and his family settled in Victoria and have many descendants still in Australia.
James died in 1886 and Anne in 1882. They were Roman Catholic.
We are visiting Donegal soon and keen to get any information we can on the family there.
