James Rafferty was born 1 Jul 1810 per his Naturalization Petition.
-
James (44) and his wife, Bridget Kelley (39) emigrated to Boston arriving in that port on 15 Apr 1849. She possibly on the Parliment in Philadelphia in Dec 1849.
-
The couple appeared in Woburn, Middlesex, Massachusetts on the 1850 federal census with Mary (18) and Hugh (5).
-
On 2 Oct 1850, the other children arrived in Boston on the ship Parliment and included: Owen (15), Betsy (14), Ann (10), Agnes (3), and Mary Kelly (16).
-
James' siblings appear to have emigrated around the same time; Ann (1797), Mary (1798), Catherine/Kate (1800), Peter (1809), Michael (1813), Patrick (1815) and settled in East Woburn near the Stoneham line.
-
A baptism record was found for James & Bridget Rafferty's daughter, Agnes dated Apr 1842 in Clougher Diocese, Carickmacross Parish, Maheracloone, Co. Monaghan.
-
No death record exists for James in 1876 when his will was probated naming his son, Hugh as his administrator.
-
James' wife, Bridget died 25 Sep 1875. As with James, no death record for her exists. A brief death announcement appeared in the local paper announcing he death "in Woburn" in spite of the fact that no record exists at the local or State level.
-
Bridget's parents are believed to have been Philip Kelley and Agnes Dernan from Co. Monaghan.
-
The family gravestone at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn/Winchester recorded the dates of their passing but per Boston Catholic Cemetery records, they are not buried in the plot.
-
The Irish, Civil Reg Death Index included the record of a James Rafferty, 60, in Monaghan v18, pg 187, FHL 101588. That record does not bear resemblance to this James to my understanding. It is attached.
Were James and his siblings the children of Peter Rafferty and Alice Duffy possibly of Tedevnet? Is there a record of their deaths at a parish church in Co. Monaghan?
