Migrated to/Born in New Zealand

Hi, hoping someone from this page can help me. Trying to trace my third great grandfather, born in Sligo (Killary?) on 15 November 1805. I have no information on his parents but he had two brothers. James enlisled in the 12th of Foot Regiment on his 21 st birthday 7 Nov 1826. Was in the army for 14 yrs, 60 days and served 8 yrs at Gilbrater and discharged 11 Dec 1840 being unfit for further service "'Disease of the lungs "'

The discripition  of James was 5' 6' in height dark complextion black hair. James married Frances Connor (possibly a nurse) in Ireland in 1832. They had six children who were also born in Ireland. James became a member of the 12th Regiment of the New Zealand Force which was called the Fencibles. James, Frances and their five children embarked on board the freight ship 'The Clifton' dated  26 Sep 1847 at Galway sailing to New Zealand. The ship Clifton was a most unhappy one firstly the boat was a freight ship not a passenger ship secondly the passengers were as the surgeon wrote in his report the women and children were pale and emaciated and bore out ward signs of having been suffering from a deficiency of proper nourishing food. James unfortunately died enroute to New Zealand.

Any help in finding James' birth place in Ireland or his parents names would be really appreciated.

I had planned a trip to Ireland on 15 April, but we have had to postpone. Would be really awesome to get some information before I go later this year.
