John Nolan (b.1849) who was a blacksmith at Knockerra Village KILRUSH in the 1870s, was still living in Doonnagurroge in 1870 when he married, age 21.
He was the son of John Nolan of Doonnagurroge KILLIMER, blacksmith. His uncle, Martin Nolan, blacksmith was also living there. (Martin Nolan of High Street Kilrush, blacksmith was his grandfather).
He must have died young ... in 1893, Margaret Nolan (widow) married Patt Mahony labourer.
His widow and children (John, Thomas & Brigid Nolan) appear in Knockerry West in the 1901 Census. His eldest son, Patrick Nolan is living in the Mahony house in 1911. None of his children appear to have taken up the trade.
Update on his son John Nolan:- Details from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/37892/nolan,-john-michael/ … John (Michael) Nolan died on 03/06/18 in WW1 whilst serving with the 9th Battalion Australian Infantry. A further online document http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/history/clare_men_women_great_… details that he was a Plumber living in Queensland at the time.
