John Caspar Darmody/Dermody was born in Killavilla, Roscrea, Co. TIPPERARY in 1835. His parents were Pierce Darmody and Sarah Bowen (aka Sally, Mary Sally, Boen, Bown).
John emigrated to the USA arriving in New York in 1852. He settled in Flora, Clay Co., Illinois where he married Martha Jane Michael. His surname was spelled Dermody in the USA.
He and Martha were parents to William Pierce, John Caspar, Jerry Patrick, James Edward, Martha, Daniel Elmer, George E, and Edna.
John's father died in Ireland, possibly just before John immigrated. It appears that the remaining siblings and their MOTHER, having all survived The Great Famine, also immigrated and lived out their lives in the USA. John had at least two uncles, James and William, who remained in Ireland as farmers in Killavilla. James was a bachelor but William and his wife, Mary had a family. At this time, we don't know what became of their children.

Hello
I have found the following records of Darmody family, Killavilla, for your information.
William Darmody married Mary England on 18/2/1820 in Roman Catholic Church, Roscrea.
The following children were born to above parents as follows and baptised in the above church:-:
Joan 15/12/1822 Michael 9/10/1824 Daniel 3/11/1826 Michael 17/10/1828 (possibly died young) William 20/7/1832 John 1/8/1833 (see details on photo)
James 28/4/1838 Peter 16/4/1843 and Patrick 6/1/1846. There is also record of a marriage of Maria Darmody to Denis Dooley on 9/6/1864 aged 25, but I have not yet seen her baptismal record. Her father was William and address was Killavilla, so very likely that she is another child.
Dick Conroy, Ireland XO Volunteer in Roscrea has given me the a photo which is the headston of William and his son John. I will try and attach a copy.
Kind regards
Margaret

Hello,
It is always a good day when I find or someone else finds ancestors in their trees or that someone finds connection s couldn't. The information you have found has given me a few pieces of my Dermody/England branch. I am hoping this branch intersects with my Gleeson/England branch.
