John Daly Hayes came to New Zealand in 1822 at the age of 12 with his 9 year old brother Thomas. Thomas was drowned 2 months later. One story is that they came on the Active with Samuel Marsden in 1822 but this has not been verified.
Where the boys were born is still a bit up in the air, Johns marriage certificate states only Ireland.
Some sources have said Ballymena ( which is mentioned in the family bible ) but other sources say Kerry.
