John Fallon was born in 1868 to Martin Fallon and Cecelia Brennan of Clooncah. He was part of large family with many siblings, all living together in a small three roomed house. He attended Clooncah National School but left after a few years to help his father on the farm.
John had the "cure of the ringworm". This was said to be because he was the seventh son in his family. Many neighbours would come to him looking for him to cure them. This was done by rubbing his finger over the rash and saying prayers.
He married Margaret "Maggie" Lennon of Clooncunny on 19 Jan 1903, witnessed by Michael Fallon and Bridget Lennon. They lived with his father Martin at Clooncah. His mother had died a few years before.
