I believe this is the brother of my 2nd great grandmother, Henrietta Fortune who immigrated to the USA in 1867.  I was always told we hailed from county Mayo---I guess not!

katetheplate1, I have a great aunt Henrietta Fortune, known as Hattie. Her parents were John Fortune and Mary Redmond and she was born in Enniscorthy in Wexford in 1850. She emigrated to Indianapolis. Her sister Anastasia also emigrated. Maybe your relative? Kate Fortune

Hi Kate Fortune

Henrietta Fortune is my great great grandmother, I'm pretty sure.  My Mom, grandmother and great grandmother were all from Indanapolis.  I still have some cousins there. My Grandmother's name was Mary Catherine Cosgrove (I'm named after her)  and he sister was Henrietta ( we called her Aunt Hen)--probably named after their grandmother-your great Aunt. 

Thank you so much for the information!  I've been to Ireland twice---might be time to go again.

Hi Kate.
Whilst I have manage to find all of John Fortune's 1848 and Jane Murphy's off spring in Knockadilly, Wells, County Wexford. I have been unable to trace any siblings or parents of John Fprtune 1848.

Therefore I cannot verify a Henrietta Fortune.    I do know that their eldest son , also John Fortune about 1873, was still single and working on the family farm in 1911. This was in Knockadilly, Wells, Co Wexford.
His younger brother Thomas Fortune was married and worked some land in nearby Knockskimolin. While his other brother Martin had returned from Liverpool with his family and worked some land nearby.

Anyone who could verify or add to this family history  would be much appreciated
